We have had a pleasant 1.5 hour drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound. According to the free brochure that we obtained, there are a few beautiful stops along this stretch of road. We only had time to stop for 2, as we didn’t want to miss our Milford cruise ride booked at 1pm. The other stop was the Mirror Lake.
The Chasm is a spot along the Cleddau River, where the watercourse carve its way through the narrow rock formation, making interesting sculptures of nature. The negative ions from the mist felt truly replenishing, it was a symphony of sight and sound throughout the 15 min walk into the heart of the Chasm.
If you are running a bit late trying to catch the boat (like we did), then we strongly recommend that you pick the Chasm, as we really enjoyed the walk! If you really want to make the most out of your trip by visiting all the scenic stops, then I strongly suggest that you scarifies your morning sleep, wake up early and depart Te Anau at the earliest time possible!
