Mirror Lake South Island New Zealand

Autumn, May 2009. Mirror Lake, also known as Lake Matheson is located at the South Island New Zealand. It sits on the 1.5 hour scenic route between Te Anau and Milford Sound. Before departing Te Anau, make sure you fill your car up, as there is no petrol station in Milford Sound.

Formed by glaciation, somewhat 14,000 year ago, the stillness of the water, and the light situation of this lake provide perfect mirror effect, reflecting the beautiful mountain in the backdrop. Very beautiful place, and even more beautiful when the mountain is covered with snow. A ‘must visit’ if you come to New Zealand.
